setting up new DSB

Just wondering if when i put the sand in the new tank if i should rinse it first. I am thinking i was told not to so that you have more of a variety of sizes or something. I can wait for the filter to clear the water if i need to not gonna rush this one

No you shouldn't rinse it.

If you run the filter, you may as well rinse it

Just run some powerheads and add some LS and it will settle on it's own in a week or so. Then you will preserve the diversity of the grain sizes, instead of removing the silt with the filter.
