i've used silica sand in the past with good results but i'm setting up a new 75g. and i'd like to use aragonite. in an effort to save some money i'm thinking about a bottom layer of silica sand and then a 1" layer of carib sea reef sand. any thoughts on this?

It would work okay but keep in mind dependant on the grain size of each, the larger will eventaully migrate to the surface. You might have better luck mixing them and reduce possibilities of the silica compacting.

Cheers
Steve
