Skimmer Cup

I was thinking about a skimmer topic from last week, in it they said not to clean the collection cup when you empty it out. Is this a general practice to leave that scum in the cup's column and just dumo the liquid?
Thanks

No, that advice is incorrect. You do not want to clean the entire skimmer body, cause it would be breaking in the skimmer each time you did this, but the skimmer will work more efficiently if you clean the skimmer neck and skimmer cup often. The scum in the neck will create drag on the rising bubbles and not as much will reach the skimmer cup

eeewww!

I can't even imagine how bad that would smell if I didn't clean that cup completely every time! As is, I do it once per week and...well it defies adequate description 8O
