Small refugium question

Would a small refugium (~6x4x12) with 230gph flow really be useful?

I ask because I am considering a 20 long AIO. This AIO would have this small refugium and a mj900 for return. To be effective does the refugium not need a lower flow? I have read that a refugium should have about 10-20x volume flow... That would mean about 10-20gph through the refugium. Should I even bother with the refugium section?

I believe a fuge is always a good idea. I have one in my 20 gal long that is working wonders.

the turn over rate of a refugium should be about the same as your skimmer

No skimmer for this tank I think. I am trying to keep it as quiet as possible so I will be relying on weekly (or bi-weekly) water changes.

Most quality skimmers are quiet. If you are mot running a skimmer maybe look at adding a algae scrubber to sump as well
