Sponge how to

Since sponges can't be removed from the water, how does one go about attaching it to a hunk of live rock? I've been thinking about using silicon caulking that is used for aquarium repair but I am not sure if that is safe to use on a sponge. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

My guess would be not a good idea... but Im not too well versed on this type of thing. I honestly dont know what to reccommend, but I hope someone will be able to help you better!
