hi,

My beloved staghorn crab was eaten by one of the larger hermits. It is my understanding that the staghorn shell is actually a living coral. Can this shell continue to survive and grow without the crab? what would be the proper care for it?

thanks..............

Fomr my understanding, it is an actual coral, but that's all I can offer.

The coral on the shell will be fine without the crab. I would make sure it ended up in a spot that will get some decent light. The stag is an SPS coral and needs lighting to survive.
