Star Polyp colony

I have had a green star polyp colony now for over 7 months. When I got the colony it all opened and did well - then shortly after it seemed to almost die off. A week later it began to open back up and then flourished -

It repeated this cycle once more and when it returned, it has more than doubled its coverage area. It is starting to close often during the day showing signs of dieing off again.

My question, is this normal?? Anyone else have this happen and/or have a suggestion to something I am missing nutrient wise

Its a beautiful piece and would hate to lose it

thanks
