starting a salt water tank

I want to start a salt water tank. What is a good size to start with? what kind of equipment do i need? i have a 45g long tank sitting around but it was previously used for fresh water fish can this be used for salt water? would appreciate any info or advice thanks.

The biggest tank you can start with the better. Will this be fish only with live rock or reef with corals? Is your tank copper free? Meaning you haven't treated for ich?

I have no idea about the iron thing i got the tank used. I am not really even sure what if live rocks or reef what's the difference? can you do both?
