Sump return: Spray bar or just open tube?

Right now my sump return is just an open pvc pipe (3/4" as I recall). Would it be better to extend it and drill a bunch of holes to make a spray bar? I have a 6-month-old reef tank with what you see in my sig.

I was splitting mine into 4 3/8 tube and use them as powerheads.
Today my rio rotating powerhead attachements will be at the LFS and I will change to that system.
