I have a Nutrafin KH test kit. The directions say fill tube and add 1 drop and shake. A blue color will result. Continue to add drops, shaking with each drop. When the color changes to yellow, stop. Multiply the total number of drops by 10 to determine the general hardness. My question is whats the ideal range ? The pamphlet says 105-125 mg/l, LFS I thought said it needs to be much higher ?????

Double check to be sure you are following the instructions for carbonate hardness, KH and GH are different things. If KH, then 105-125 mg/l would be just fine but would also need to be balanced against the Ca depending on the type of tank you have. If it is the GH portion, you need to either redo the test or find a new test kit. GH is not relavent in SW aquaria.

NSW is 1.5 - 3 mEq/l alkalinity (KH) or in your case 75 - 150 mg/l

50 mg/l = 1 mEq/l (or if in ppm 1mg/l = 1 ppm)

Personally I would try keeping the alk between 125 - 150 mg/l though, less chances for problems.

Cheers
Steve
