I would have liked to see sources that are newer than 30 years old, but this is a decent read.

Still really great info. I never considered the other effects hypo can do, specifically with wounds and missing scales as well as brooklynella.

Fish have known this for millions of years. On a dive in Mexico, I encountered a small cave where there was a halocline, where the fresh ground water sat on top of the seawater. There were a dozen 3' tarpon in there and they would swim into the freshwater to kill parasites, plus it looked like they got intoxicated and were kind of doppy when they came out. In that setting you could handle them without issues. I think a little can go a long way with this treatment.

I've always wondered why people say that keeping fish at a lower salinity of 1020 or 1018 is less stressful since the reefs they were collected from are 1025. I may be wrong though.
