Urchin question

My urchin keeps eating my coraline algae and I think today I found him eating some of my star polyps so I put the bastard in my sump. Does an urchin need light and will he do any good in my sump?

Provided there is something in there for it to eat, it will do fine in the sump.

this is why my urchin was ultimatly returned to the LFS that sold him to me

as kevin stated, as long as he's got food in there (some algae sheets etc) he'll be fine in there.

My urchin eats some of my coraline algae, but also does his job with the other undesirable algae as well! I think he is cool, he keeps trying to stick stuff on his back, I had to save a poor crab who he was trying to "suck up" on to his back. I guess he is a "decorator urchin"
