I bought a used setup about six months ago. It's been doing great. I just have a little bit of a red slime problem. Anyways I noticed my uv sterilizer wasn't working anymore. The pump is out and it's a all in one unit. Do I really need a new one?

I don't use mine anymore either.
I think there are some situations where they are useful, but in most cases the bulbs aren't maintained and the flow is too fast, so they don't do much anyways. They can also destroy helpful things in the water column.

you aren't going to solve the cyano issue with a UV sterilizer. I agree with Greg.
