How do I get the syphon going in my over flow box U tube??

It's not a dumb question. You're going to have to get a piece of air tube and stick up 1/2 to the top of the bend. Make sure both ends of the U tube are underwater and start sucking on the air tube, or hook it up to a pump. Once the suction is going you can pull the tube out.

Yep. Thats the exact procedure I use. I try to have thei airline tube at the highest point in the bend and then i give a good long draw on the airline tube and when water starts to enter the airline tube I cover the one end with my tounge. THen I hold the U tube in place and pull the airline tube out.
