Live sand is basically aragonite impregnated with nitrafying bacteria.
Pods are seeded into the system from
LR, not substrate. To help pod populations in a system, run a refugium.
To get a good sandbed going, add at least a couple of inches of aragonite, then top it off with live sand. OK to put on top of existing crushed coral.
Reef sand such as aragonite is softer and dissolves at a higher pH value than crushed coral (8.0 vs 7.8). Aragonite makes a better natural buffer.

We, as a people, know so much more about outer space than we do about our own oceans. This lack of knowledge can very well spell the dangers that lay in wait for us.
The oceans surely would swallow us before a rock comes down to smite the planet of it's life.
