I begin adding fish to my 55 Amazon biotope-ish tank in two days. Tank specs: 2 angelfish, 6 false juli cories, 1 bn pleco, 6 some ottos, and 20-30 schooling fish. The tank is moderately planted with lots of driftwood.

What I can't decided is whether to just do a school of Cardinal tetras (I realize potential conflict with angels) OR whether to do a school of Cardinal tetras and rummy nose tetras together. It would either be 20-25 cardinals alone OR 10-15 cardinals + 10-15 rummynose.

I've heard cardinal & rummynose schools look really good together but I've also heard that two schools in a 55 would look disjointed and the rummynoses wouldn't school tightly. Thoughts?

They look cool! But I definitely want the cardinals in there so it's just between cardinals or cardinals and rummynose.

I vote cardinals and rummys. Rummys tend to stick to the mid/low areas and cardinals are more mid/upper level swimmers. Thatd be lots of action with both cardinal/rummy

I honestly like cardinals.. you could just do a big school of them!

Cardinals tetras and angels

I never knew that cardinals and angels should not be together. Is it because the cardinals are small fish? Or is it because of another problem? Cardinals grow to around 1 inch or so. I don't think a full grown angel could eat them. But that is why I am on this site. To learn. Thanks

Yeah it's because the angels could eat them. You have better chances if the angels are with them from a young age (as they are too small to eat them at that point) and grow up with them. But angels are very unpredictable. Some will eat them regardless, some won't care.

From what I've read, cardinals are the better choice over neons. Cardinals tend to be a little larger.

But as you've said, it could happen.
