So, I sold my 10 gallon( finally) and am updating to a 20 gallon long as soon as I get the money( everything including fish and everything is $150!)
So I was thinking about this stock
5 Neon tetras
3 cherry barbs
4 kuhli loaches
12 ghost shrimp
And I am going to wait 4 months to put in 3 otocinclus
I am going to put that black gravel with little neon pebbles
I am adding anarcharis ( five stems)
An amazon sword plant
And two anubius plants
And I am putting a whisper 20 gallon filter in there
I'm putting the tree root ornament you all have seen , and the decoration bellow
So, what do you think, is this stock good, open to comments, and cool ideas
Thanks:D

If you're going to be buying a new filter why not buy a good one for $10 more? You'll need a filter rated for a bigger tank than 20 gallons since its such a long tank. I have an Fluval AC50 on my 20g long set at about the middle flow and works perfect

So what would be a good tank for this tank, I'm paying everything so might as well buy something that is good

Yeah, Loach, I agree with Zimm regarding that filter -- ditch the idea for that Tetra "internal" filter...I never liked those internal filters...they really don't provide any kind of flow worth a darn and don't really "filter" much of anything at all, regardless of what they say -- in fact, that was the first thing I got rid of when setting up my 10 gallon starter kit some time back when I had to put my fish in something when the old 60 gallon cracked...it came with some piece of crap internal filter made by "Grreat Quality" and I immediately swapped that out for an Aqueon QuietFlow 20...

On your 20 gallon, I'd recommend one of the AquaClears or Aqueons rated for at least a 30 gallon so you get some good turnover going...

Get that squared away before you worry about the decor, gravel, etc...(y)

Ok, I guess I can get an aqueous, I have an airstone , would that help with flow?

Airstones are more for looks than anything, they help a little with surface agitation and gas exchange but that's about it. Airstones have nothing to with flow rates. They could help a little bit with dead spots in tans though

Up the neons and cherry barbs up to 8 IMO.

I wouldn't do 16 schooling fish in a 20g. Maybe up the barbs to 5 if you want. That's a whole lot of active fish in a deceptively small tank. If you end up doing 8 of each then really I would spend the extra $9 and get a 29 gallon, same footprint but taller, would give those fish a lot more room

Ok, so I guess I'll add five cherry barbs, I can't get a bigger tank, I'm barely getting allowed a 20 long so

And, yes, Loach, Zimm is correct here again -- air stones/bubblers/etc. have nothing to do with your filter "flow rates." That is determined by the manufacturer of the filter and what they have rated the filter at. ;)
