I was fortunate enough to get a free 20g tank with metal frame. Gave it a little TLC and now it's ready for anything. I'm going to use it to grow plants, QT for fish and plants. A shout-out to mfdrookie516 for the big help on how to set-up the dirt and sand substrate. I appreciate it :D thank you.

It's 1.5" dirt and 2" sand.

Woah, never seen a metal frame before! That looks pretty cool. What are you planning to grow?

Nice vintage tank. The frame looks to be in good shape. Is the bottom slate?

Thanks :) The bottom is also glass but it looks different. Like those stained, more of a distorted looking glass.

I'm not sure yet which plants to grow. I'll put my extra trimmings in there and whatever new plants I get before putting it in the main tank. Thanks.

Lookin good! Looking forward to seeing more ;)

Thanks to you :D

I'm actually excited :)

What do you guys think is the best filter that will go with the tank? AC?

AC50 or a smaller canister. Are you doing co2 in this tank?

I'm thinking of doing CO2 but DIY. I'm saving right now for CO2 n my 125g. I'm a poor man in a rich man's hobby :)

I'll check out AC50. Thanks

Hmmm... Yeah, pressurized is definitely the way to go... but I completely understand not having the cash. Good thing is that it will only run you about $150 for the basics, of course you can always make it more expensive haha.

Reason I ask is because if you're going to run pressurized, a canister is by far the best way to go. Really, its probably a little better anyways because they have the ability to not disturb the surface and offgas co2 like HOB's. They also make it easy to DIY a reactor for super efficiency.

Fort gave me a link to where he order his co2 system and the link to the DIY reactor. I might do that this week.

For my 125, I'll take out the 2 HOB filters and just use the FX5 so there will be less surface disturbance.

If I'll go with canister for the 20g, which one should i get?

a fluval 205, rena xp1 (or maybe 2... but that would be a lot of flow IMO), or an eheim... not sure on the eheim numbers.

If fort gave you links, those are the ones I used. You can look at my 40 breeder journal for a diy reactor plan, but I also did a different design on my 125 that i like better.

I ended up buying AC50. I installed cheap lights(temporary) but I hope it'll do the job until I can buy a better fixture. The girl at my LFS gave me some snails that burrows in the sand. I forgot the name. Here are some pics...

wow that was fast....very nice ....that is a MTS...the snail...

Thank you daileene :) I got those snails for free. I was just asking the staff about snails that burrows in the sand that helps with getting rid of accumulated waste(gas?) in the sand and she game me some extra. Thanks for the info(MTS) :D

What do i feed the snails? I don't have fish yet. So there is no excess food or fish waste. Thanks.
