Removed some stuff, added some stuff. Removed some plants, added some plants. The usual...

What do you think?

The before tank was good, the after tank is beautiful. Looks really clean and classy, nice and defined but still natural looking. Nice work.

Looks great!

I think the orange of the slate(?) in the Before set-up was a bit distracting. The greens in the After set-up look deeper, probably because of the contrast with the dark wood. I also like that the After set-up seems to have more of a "front" area.

Good work! :)

Lookin good Max.........I also agree with your decision to remove the red/orange rock.
Looks like you changed your gravel too huh.......how did that go for ya?

I like it very nicely done. I like the way you arrainged the plants, very complimentry to the leaf shapes and textures.

Yes, I forgot to mention the change of substrate to pool filter sand. Hopefully the increase in lighting along with me not overdosing phosphate will help the plants out. The fish seem to like it a lot. They'll like it even more when the plants start to fill in...

Not much of a change here. Switched some stuff around. Added a crypt and some more micro swords. Also moved an argentine sword from my Minibow. The plants and fish seem to like the new Odyssea 96watt CF lighting.

Hedge, which I think is a non-aquatic. Anyone?

The Green Hedge is definately not a true aquatic and should be removed now instead of later.

Update: I got rid of the greenhedge and replaced it with some cabomba. I'm going to remove the red plants to the right (Alternanthera sessilis). I found out that they are not true aquatic plants. They had an initial spurt but are not growing at all now. I don't think they can be grown fully submersed.

I also moved the red plants that were hidden behind the hedge to the forefront. I'm still trying to figure out what they're called. I'll take a close-up pic tonight so I can get an ID on it...

I like what you've done...the differences are amazing. You are correct about the hedge, it's not a true aquatic. I've informed one of my LFS that they should discontinue it's sale.

Thanks Jchillin...

Just about every LFS I've gone to in my areas seems to stock it.....including just about every Petland Discounts store around. Even the smaller 'mom and pop' type stores carry it as an aquatic plant. Petco is the worst offender when it comes to carry plants that are not true aquatics.

Looking good there....

After looking at your wisteria and water sprite, mine is definitely water sprite. I thought it was water sprite, and that's what was ordered, but some thought it was wisteria.

Again, great looking tank. Love it..... (y)

Hmmm, it's funny, 'cause my water sprite looks nothing like what you guys have..... and you both have the same thing. Maybe there's a third plant that is commonly called water sprite???

I've tried to convince some of my local mom-and-pop LFS to stop stocking non-aquatic plants but they just say that that's what the distributor sends them. Oh well.

Maxwell, your tank looks awesome, I really like the piece of driftwood you have. Are you sure that is Alternanthera sessilis? It looks alot like the A. reineckii that I have which is aquatic, although it does grow very slowly.

Keep up the good work, and keep the pictures coming!

The plant has me confused because I there are so many plants I've seen pics of online that look exactly like it. That fact that it hasn't been growing lately when everything else is flourishing is what led me to believe that it may not be aquatic. It's kinda hard to tell. Even the 3 pics on this page look completely different, even though they're all supposed to be the same plant: http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide_viewer.php?id=10

TeeReefer: The filter is a Penguin 350 with dual bio-wheels (350gph)

If you like red plants, don't give up on the Alternanthera unless it's really bothering you....all my other plants are growing like weeds and the Alternanthera grows really.....really.....slowly. I think that's just how it grows. I like its coloration so I keep it. One problem is that it accumulates spot algae on the older leaves, kind of like Anubias does, because it grows so slowly.

BTW, do you have CO2 on your tank?? If you do, do you know that the BioWheels will very effectively de-gas the CO2?? (Just checking!)

I may give them another shot. I took them out, but I don't particularly like the way it looks now.

Yes, I'm injecting CO2 with a DIY Jello setup. I've been dragging my feet on getting the parts to finish my pressurized setup. The BioWheels don't seem to be a problem for me. I'm getting 25-30ppm of CO2, maybe because I have the water level high enough to not cause any splash.
