40 gallon breeder stocking!!!

Hi all,

I have a planted 40 gallon breeder that is established. The current residents are:

2 GBR
9 Bloodfin Tetras
5 nerite snails
numerous MTS
a few betta fry (3?) and some pea-sized angelfish fry (10ish), all temporary

I would like to fill in this tank with more fish . I am looking for something that is GBR sized hopefully, or something that is smaller but brightly colored. I have toyed with the idea of barbs, but I don't know anything about their personality. I have also considered rainbowfish, but once again I know little about their personalities. My tank is heavily planted btw. I also run a 50 and 30 aqua clear on this tank and do water changes weekly so water quality remains high.

I would greatly appreciate any ideas as I am drawing blanks here!

So I have decided to make this tank a schooling tank.

4 Pygmy cories
18 ruby tetras (10 not yet here)
9 gold (silver) tetras
10 blue emporer tetras (not yet here)
9 bloodfin tetras
8 kuhli loaches
6 Celebes rainbows (not yet here)
6 scarlet badis

I have also opened up the scaping which means it looks pitifully bare for now until the plants grow in.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! They really helped to narrow my focus!

Ps. The gbrs are moving to my 55 angel tank with my 30 dime sized angels (they will not all be staying of course! Just growing out).
