A friend gave me a plant from their tank. They have never had problems with ick or disease. So they say anyway. Is it ok to use it?

I want to use it in my 3 gal with a guppy mom and her fry. ( in a basket) The kids would be upset if anything happened.

You can always do a hydrogen peroxide dip.

hydrogen peroxide or bleach dip and your good to go

Another chemical you could use is potassium permagranite.
