I am setting up a 90 gal Malawian Cichlid tank. My main concern is lighting.

This is what George from www.malawicichlid.com said
"As for the lighting, I would just add a full length white and a full length actinic fluorescent tubes, placed as close to each other as possible."
I would love to follow his advice but I have questions. I got an electronic balast that can run two bulbs? It is recomended for use with (2) F40T12.
(1)What does that mean?
(2)Do I need HO or VHO?
(3)Are 2 NO bulbs going to put out enough light?
(4)How long is full length -- 4 feet?
(5)Can my balast run 2 T5 bulbs instead of T12s.

I know that I could just bug George again but he is only one person. I want input from many. I have been reading your post for awhile now and I respect your advice.

Thank You
Ray

I believe thats 2 40 watt T12s

2. No, IMO.
3. Yes, IMO. Should bring out their colors just fine, with malawi cichlids you aren't going to be growing plants, you should be good to go.

Assuming you have a standard size 90 gallon, yes 48 inch bulbs.

5. I haven't the slightest idea. You may want to try searching the DIY and/or General Hardware forums.
