Okay was wondering is there a point where you don't want to have a larger air pump and it can be harmful to your fish? For example I have a Topfin 8000 series for my little 10 gallon?

some fish like a high current, some like more still water. it depends on what kind of fish you have in your tank.

airstones are not really necessary. they are helpful if your tank needs oxygenation or while your tank is cycling (the surface agitation helps promote bacteria growth)

I've got an airpump for each of my two tanks. Both pumps are "oversized" by a factor of 2: Tetra Whisper 60 for my 30-gallon, Tetra Whisper 20 for my 10-gallon.

The TW20 is really quiet. The TW60... not so much.

I can relate the 8000 I have keeps me awake haha
