I recently had a fairly bad outbreak of hair algae (it got really bad almost immediately when my Hagen CO2 unit stopped producing bubbles overnight).
I've been doing almost daily water changes to try to get my nutrients back in balance and removing as much of the stuff as I possibly can, but it grows back lightning fast.
Today I went down to the LFS and bought ten Amano shrimp to help me keep on top of the stuff. The second each one hit the tank, they found a spot and started chowing down!
I'll let ya know how things progress, but if they keep eating at this pace my tank will be spotless in no time! They're pretty little shrimp, too. A lot more colorful than what I've seen in pictures.
