I used to have 6 neon tetras in a 20 long for a few weeks, and I just added 8 more. Now, I need to head out for a weeklong trip. Is there any chance that an ammonia spike will occur while I'm gone? There are some shrimp in the tank and a spike would harm them.

I wouldn't be too worried. I think changing the filter cartridge and doing a small water change to remove any debris would help but its not necessary.
