Tank stats
55 gallons
1 home made filter
1wet dry trickle filter
Tank Mates
3 sailfin mollies
4 dojo loaches

How many angels can I keep?
Thanks In Advance
Bo

The dojo loaches get about a foot long but are very skinny. The dojo loaches in my tank are 4 inches long currently.

Word of warning, don't get three. Either get two or four, odd numbers don't work well for angels. Once they reach maturity and pair up the outsider will be bullied.
I'd suggest getting one pair, as the others have said. :>

A pair sounds good, as Morgie... don't get 3, also I wouldn't add a kribensis either, well mine didn't like each other and I reckon a 100g tank wouldn't have been enough !

Out of curiosity, when you're buying four angelfish how do you know you're not getting three males and one female (or some other combo which won't lead to two pairs)?

Something to do with birds & bees Jack ! Hahaha
To be honest though, I don't know them apart, most species have a dead give-away like sword-tails or guppies.
Your supplier ought to know, they might even keep them apart.

Nope - my LFS is PetSmart. I guarantee you that I know more about fish than they do... and I'm still a newbie!

Ah ! Well there's the dilemma. Do you have a job? Maybe your LFS needs a new employee, or better yet if the only competition is Petsmart, you could be on the verge of your own business as a specialist aquatics outlet !!
Hey, if I was a bit closer, I would definitely come to you before the 'other' option, but at approx. 3,500 miles, it's a bit of a trek even for a quality aquatics service !

You could buy 5 or 6 and then when they pair off get rid of the others. That's why I suggested 3 because once they paired off you could get rid of the third. If you buy 2 and it is a pair you are lucky.

Thanks, I will get 5-6 juvies and get rid off all but one pair

Just make sure you know you have somewhere or someone who would want them when you reach that point. You don't want to end up overstocked with no place to send the other angels. So if you don't have a place then I would just get one but that's JMO.

My LFS accepts "fish that have outgrown your aquarium" so it wouldn't be a problem. However I may just get one so if the pair spawns they won't get territorial and beat up my other fish. It would also take a while for a pair to form because the angels they sell are quarter sized.

It would take awhile for them to pair off. It's purely up to you but I think one would look cool. I am still trying to decide what I want to put in my 55 other than a huge school of rummy nose tetras but one of my options is def an angel.
