Not really, although they have been known to take their leave of their aquariukms from time to time. Are you planning on keeping them in fresh or brackish water?

fresh, are they brackish then? i heard they need to breed in brackish but can live in freshwater

I believe they can live in freshwater, but in order to breed they should be kept in brakich water, which is why they are such popular algae eating snails in the aquarium hobby, they aren't very prolific unless kept in brakich water.

I googled them and this was a good site that came up: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/sept2003/invert.htm

Note that you may find interesting:
A few species can be found on mangrove roots, some on seagrasses or mudflats, and there are also brackish and freshwater species.

Also this site has a very good picture of some, and a good couple of paragraphs of information on them: http://www.azgardens.com/snails.php
Just scroll down to, "Algae Eating Olive Nerite Snails."

Correct, although their lifespan seems to be shortened when kept exclusively in freshwater.

Which are one of about three species readily available to aquarists....here in Calgary, olive nerites are scarce at best, but many aquarists, including myself, keep the zebra nerites:
