Do they sell or make a sand filter? could I use a hybrid under gravel system? I'm havin' trouble keepin the sand clean...any suggestions would be appreciated

are you gravel vacing? they make sand filters but its not what you are thinking about.

Sand is usually too small for an undergravel filter( which are a pain to clean anyway) and no such sand filter that I Know of. I personally use a sleeper goby to clean my sand and he does an outstanding job on the upper layers and is gorgeous to boot.

I also use a regular gravel vaccuum on my sand, however I do notice that a small tube will have a greater suction than the larger gravel tubes....so if you have (for example) a piece of driftwood which is sloughing off layers leaving things looking dirty, a smaller gravel tube cleans it up nicely.
