Buy one! I have an eel-tail that came from the wild so i'm not sure which type it is. He would have to be my favourite fish but in saying that he is the most aggresive in my tank. They have 3 poisoned spines one dorsal the others on either side. Mine is always trying to get under my flying fox and chinese algae eater to use that dorsal spine. They have the potential to grow big, one the biggest freshwater fish native to australia. Be careful that you don't end up with a jewfish as well, they are straight predator and look very similar. My fella is about 6 inches long and hasen't succeded in killing a fish yet and he has been in there for a bit over 12 months. Hope this helps!!!
I feed all my fish on O.S.I vivid colour flakes with a cube of frozen bloodworm at times. My eel-tail is very active. On occasions he will rest in my grass clumps nose down, I think he is trying to camoflage. Usally he is found middle tank but he surface feeds and will filter crap out of the gravel as well. Very slowgrowing and will be a companion for decades. Just don't get 2 or they will go nuts on every fish in your tank in a matter of days. May I ask what colour, the black ones with red fins are the rarest and probably the most attractive. Mine is sand coloured with metallic flecks all over but does change colour on occasions to brown and every shade between. If you couldn't tell I love my Eel-tail!
