API filstar filters broken?

Ok guys I have exhausted myself trying to figure this out. So I got this 150g with two xl API filters and both are leaking from where the power cord goes into the head of the canister. I need help if I can't get these working I'm going to have to resort to 3 hob filters and I really don't have the money to put in to it!

Are they new or used? It is not a filter I have any experience with, I don't know how much you will really be able to do with leaky filters. If they are used, I am not sure how to help. You can try contacting the company though and seeing if they are able to help you at all.
