Aquarium water smell

I am just wondering whether everyone is experiencing the same phenomena: Water in the tank smells. It smells like .... I do not know, wet dirt? I change water twice a week, 20-30 % each time. It still has that particular smell. No chemicals in the tank, cycle is complete. Nitrates are slowly rising to 10. Is everyone's water smells like that? 8O

Yep captain.

A cycled tank has a fresh dirt smell; its the nitrifying bacteria. Its a good smell (well, it may not appeal to you LOL but its a good thing!).

Mine has the wet dirt smell as well. It's not like its a rancid smell or anything, at least.

As long as it doesnt smell like rotten or so, theres no prob. Its like de definite smell of a tank. Theres really nothing to worry about.
