Aragonite for shrimp

Can I add aragonite to the sand substrate in aplanted tank or does it have to be in the filter? I have to have it because my shrimp die without it because of our terrible water.'Thanks and God bless!

God is amazing. The proof is in the pudding and the pudding is everywhere
