So it turns out I do have nitrates in my tap water at about 20ppm. So despite frequent 50% pwcs my nitrates are always high. I have a fish with dropsy, and I think my Betta is getting fin rot. I have some live plants but they don't seem to be making any difference. I just bought some root tabs to help the plants. But I was wondering if certain plants would help? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

All plants consume N. The faster they grow, the faster they use it. Fast growing plants like hornwort, wisteria, water sprite... even duckweed.
