Are clay pots aquarium safe?

I'd like to put a clay pot in my tank to give the smaller fish a place to hide. Are they aquarium safe? And do I need to do anything to the pot beforehand other than rinse it out?

I have seen clay pots in aquariums before. I know that a lot of small catfish breeders use them as a spawning ground for their catfish or corys. Definitly rinse out the pot...other than that, I am hoping someone else can chime in as far as if anything else needs to be done...

Aquariums are like jello - there's always room for more.

I have clay pots in my tanks as well. I soak em first after rinsing them out well, usually until the little bubbles stop..bubbling LOL Haven't had a prob with them. Just make sure you get new and not used pots.

Clay pots are fine as long as you do what Allivymar and lmw80 said, they are ideal for breeding cichlids and cory's etc..
