can i keep some in my tank or not?

You're going to get all types of passionate responses on this thread.. long of the short.. no, balas have the potential of reaching a max size of 16-18", they enjoy company, so to successfully house 4 full grown balas you'd be in the neighborhood of 500 gal... there are other sharky fish out there.. red tails are cool.. if you like the shiny fast action aspect check out Odessa barbs!

Fish sold as sharks in the freshwater hobby are cypranids and related to barbs and carp. Rainbow sharks are territorial but should do ok in your tank.
