I have a 35 UK gallon (42 US Gallon) tank and at the moment it is home to 5 small tiger barbs, I was thinking of adding 2-3 jade barbs and a redtail shark at a later date, what I'm concerned about is overcrowding of the tank and the compatibility of the barbs and redtail together, my friend housed a red tail and barbs successfully but in an 80 gallon tank, would this tank be too small for a redtail? And if so any suggestions on what else to house on the tank instead? Any help would be appreciated;)

Oh sorry I read the uk gallon a red tail could be kept in a 47 for a little while but then it needs to be upgraded

You can house the redtail shark and the barbs without any problems. You can even add more tiger barbs if you'd like. A 42g is a good-sized tank.
