Beginner In Need of Tips

Hi All,

I'm completely new to fish keeping so trying to do as much research as possible and do everything right from the start. I really want to get a puffer. I'm in the process of cycling my new tank using the instructions (to the letter) here: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f15/fishless-cycling-for-dummies-103339.html

Does anyone have any tips for a newbie?

Hi and welcome to AA. Nice to see your doing your research before getting your fish. Well done!

Welcome, great that you are taking it serious. But you don't HAVE to do a fish less cycled fish in works great. Puffers? Not to trying to tell you what to do but they aren't anything special. They get VERY nippy so you have to watch what fish you keep with them.


How big is your tank, what kind of lighting and filter, do you plan on getting real plants?

Hi All!

Thanks for the responses, I've got a biorb life 30L (with heater), I haven't bought any real plants yet, are real plants recommended?

I find dwarf puffers fascinating! Wanted one for years! So I'm pretty set on getting one as for lighting, and filters I've just got what came with the tank.
