Best biotopes for a 40 breeder (not african)

The title says it all, I got a 40 breeder unexpectedly and have no clue what to do with it. I want to upgrade from my 10 gal but idk what to keep :

Dwarf sa/ca cichlids and tetras would be my vote. Lots of color and activity.
