I currently have a male betta and have been thinking of getting a female being that he is the only top swimmer i have in my 20g planted. Is this a good or bad move. He is not real aggressive. When he gets bored he chases the shrimp but has only taken out one and that was the first day i out them in. I also have two female apple snails and one male. The male seems to be "bothering" the females an awful lot. I havent seen any eggs yet, but he isn't hurting them is he??

Male bettas must be kept separate from females unless you are actively spawning them, which is a carefully monitored process.

Most male bettas do not like tank mates and do best in a species only environment.

I doubt your snails are hurting each other.
