What are these filters, how do they work and how come we don't hear about them very often?

I have always wondered cause i heard about them, but when I was in my lfs yesterday, they had them. It's a plastic box with a bunch of bioballs in it.....

I am just curious really....thanks

Much better for filtration when using larger tanks and/or high waste-output fish. Although, the price is much higher than your average HOB filter as well. They are called Wet/Dry filters...

omg! are they really called wet/dry filters! That explains so much! I never made the correlation between the two!

These are the original wet/drys - although the biowheel is a wet dry too - you find them in SW tanks a lot, tho a lot of goldy keepers use them too.
