I recently bought a Fluval 305 and would like to swap it for my Emperor bio-wheel filter. Naturally, I don't want to sacrifice water quality in the process. Can anyone tell me if I can just make the switch or do I need to run both and make some kind of transition? Thanks!

I would run both filters for two weeks. Then pull one bio wheel off the emperor (if it's a 400). Give it a week and pull the other wheel. Give it a week and shut the emperor down. Be ready to test for ammonia/nitrite after shutting the emperor down. You will probably be OK, but better safe than sorry.
