I have a 20 gal. tank with a filter and 2 fancy Goldfish in it. There was a lot of black stuff on the decorations and the water was cloudy. Last night I scrubbed all the decorations and changed most all the water. I added some aquarium salt and Malachite green. The smell in the tank was rather musty. I'm new at fish keeping and I don't know if this is a type of alge. I thought alge was green. Maybe someone out there knows what the problem is and what I should do about it. Please let me know if you have any insite on this, thanks. :ermm:

Does it look like blue-green algae?

Use google if you need more pics.

And don't dose malachite green unless you know for sure what it is. Malachite is a pretty harsh chemical, and usually for fish parasites. It could be black brush(or beard) algae, which is often black as the name suggests.
