Bleaching a plastic tank?

I know it's okay to bleach a glass tank because the bleach leaves very little residue and comes off with a good rinse. but does that apply to plastic tanks too? will the plastic absorb the bleach at all? i had an ill betta in a 5 gallon and would like to move another fish into the tank but would like to make sure that all of the bacteria is gone first. any input is appreciated

My advise is don't bleach. I am no expert but you don't need to bleach to kill bacteria.
