I ended up getting a blue/three-spot gourami unexpectedly about a month ago. He (I think it's a he) seems healthy, but the problem is that he almost NEVER comes out of his cave. I've never kept gouramis before, but I don't think this is normal behavior, especially since they are a labyrinth fish. I feel like keeping a small group of gouramis would help him feel safer and come out more, but the whole reason I ended up with this fish is because he was getting beaten up by another bigger blue gourami. I want to do my best by this fish, but I'm scared of aggression between a group of them. Should I add more plants? Get more fish? Or do nothing? Only tank mates right now are a small group of cherry barbs and snails.
Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated!
