I have a 36 gal. tank with 5 gouramis (1 male rainbow dwarf, 2 blue (male and female), and 2 gold (male and female)).

I've had them for a month or so now and in all that time most of them stay amongst the plants, the reason being that the female gold chases the others back to cover whenever they venture out. Anyone else out there had this?

I'm on the point of taking her back to the shop. Before I do I thought I'd see if anyone has any alternative remedies?

The tank also contains 2 young bristle nosed cats and 5 zebra loaches; she pays no attention to any of these, only the other gouramis.

Gouramis can be conspecific.
The blue [3 spot] and gold are basically the same fish with different colors so them not liking each other seems normal..
