You can buy a "the amazing live sea monkeys" for pretty cheap, and it comes with a little tank, eggs, food and stuff. That could get you started, but obviously it wont be enough for feeding a fish regularly... you could use the eggs to hatch them though. I have raised them before. They are so easy to raise. You just have to feed them twice a day, with the food they come with. The will eventually grow up and lay eggs.... its pretty easy. I raised them when I was 8 years old.

Raising Brine Shrimp
I myself have been experimenting with raising brine shrimp. The hatching part is really quite simple. Raising them to adulthood, for me, is proving to be difficult to say the least. But due to my nature i will not stop until I've managed to successfully raise them to adulthood in worthwhile numbers.
I'm posting my efforts in a video diary on you tube. I would be more than grateful for advise.

I enjoy breeding my own I feed the ones hatched after 24 hours to my baby mollies/guppies....the rest I allow to grow a few weeks and feed them to my main tank.

From everything I've read, the key to raising them to adulthood is treating them the same way as daphnia, give them plenty of green water and sunlight and let them rock. There's one video on youtube where a guy just tosses his old brine into a bucket outside and somehow it grows them to maturity. I think the brine in the tub is established with some kind of algae though.

It looks like he doesn't mess with the salinity at all, he uses the same amount every time to hatch the bbs and just dumps in the leftovers after harvesting.

Or he gets the right salinity in the hatching part. Because I think they HAVE to have saltwater to hatch.

They have to be hatched and raised in brine (salt) water. They can live approx 5 hours max in freshwater.

The water has to be salt water and because he's growing outside algae grows as a result of sunlight. The brine shrimp filter feed on the algae. Im attempting and experimenting with growing them indoors as we do not have the climate for outdoor growth. The hardest part is getting the correct salinity and not over or under feeding them.

Outdoor tubs grow algae from the sunlight from which the brine shrimp filter feed. Im experimenting with indoor growth as we dont have the climate to grow outdoors. Ive posted a link to my video however its waiting for approval before posting.

That looks like a good setup that should definitely work!! It's just super tricky when I comes to feeding the artemia

Feeding is the hardest part i find. Too much food and the artemia crash rapidly. I guess its a case of trial and errror.
