Bullying - PLEASE HELP

I just got cherry barbs yesterday and one of them is picking on one of my guppies and the guppy’s tail fin is tattered from the cherry barb biting at him. I have fake plants in the tank that the guppy hides in, but every time he tries to come out the cherry barb bullies him. I don’t want to have to rehome either of them so what can I do?

It’s a 29g tall. The guppy unfortunately died, though.

I’m gonna try to get at least 3 more, but I can’t afford anymore fish at the moment so I’m hoping I can find someone willing to give me some.

I mean.... rational me says do not take on lives you cannot financially support. It's your tank though.
