Can I put fish in?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!

Ok. The tank is in my moms office, and she is really attached to the idea of guppies. And if they don't work out, I have a 30 gal that I can put them in, currently empty.

Guppies might survive but not thrive.

I have had Bettas be very, very active and fun to watch alone in a 3 or 5 gallon, once it had plenty of cover to make him feel safe. I'd consider some crypts on the bottom layer, a sword plant in the middle, and some floating pennywort above. I don't know a ton about plants but I've had those in with a betta in a low tech low light tank for awhile and all is well. He's always dashing around, playing by going over and under plants, and flaring at himself. The floating pennywort is also pretty on a desk.

Male guppies don't fight. They probably died for some other reason

I've had lots of male only tanks as well as male and females and have never once seen any aggressive behavior. The closest I've seen is playing "tag"
