changing color?

Hello everyone, quick question, i bought this fish (sorry about the poor picture....hard to capture a moving target on film )

a few weeks ago, when i brought him home he was solid, bright white. Slowly the black spots have been developping, I was wondering whether anyone knows if this is caused by something in the water? or if it just happens as they age? If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it, I'm just curious!

Thank you!

Thanks, I was just surprised that the spots showed up so quickly, it went from absolutely zero spotting, to the fish you see in the picture over just a couple weeks, I wasn't sure if nutrition or different amounts of trace elements in the water would cause it to appear so quickly.

Just curiosity

thanks for the input!

Stress causes many fish to lose color. I am guessing here but it was probably brand new to the LFS's tank and the temporary home was sub optimal.

This stress induced loss of color has caused me to pick up a very nasty loach once upon time because I was not careful to look at it completely (I was getting some skunk loaches and there happened to be a very stressed tiger loach in the tank...all it's stripes were hidden except for the one going across it's back so it looked just like a skunk loach (botia morleti)...Tiger loaches are the type of fish you put in with the baddest meanest nastiest critters or they will quickly kill everything else in the tank)
