I have always changed my filters once a month and carbon every other. I noticed on here everyone doesn't change there. My water gets floaties if I don't my water is good just tested it and I don't do water changes. My fish r happy and healthy. I am I doing something wrong I have a rena canister filter.thank u

You shouldn't have to do any filter changes, unless the media is literally falling apart. You don't even have to keep carbon. Just sponge and bio ceramic rings.

Just do water changes. When you change the filter you throw away the bacteria that helps keep your tank running.

Ok thank u. I have never been told not to change them learn something new everyday

I probably change out filter media a few times a year. Carbon I use rarely. At every water change, I rinse out my filter media, however, this is only with HOB filters. With my canister, I only rinse out maybe once every 6 weeks.
